「共感」( synesthesia ) 指的是這種狀態,一種感官或認知的過程跨入另一種感官或認知的過程。

現代西方社會將有感官交錯能力的人,稱為Synesthete,指這類人的五個感官可以互通。而古代東方詩人很早就精通共感力,在詩裡聞香、畫裡賞鳥鳴,蘇東坡在一千多年前就稱讚王維「詩中有畫畫中有詩」,在詩句中構圖造景,畫裡流露詩意:

「人閒桂花落,夜靜春山空」

「月出驚山鳥,時鳴春澗中」

「行到水窮處,坐看雲起時」

這些詩句,有聲、有色、有意境。靜到可以聽到花落的聲音,花落真的有聲音嗎?在天人合一的專注中,以五覺放大感官接收自然的能量與細語。蘇東坡則是另一位共感詩人,「微雨過,小荷翻」,聽見小雨打在荷葉上的聲了嗎? 感覺到初夏的清涼?

在注重邏輯思考的現代教育訓練下,如何測驗誰聽得到花落聲,如何評分花落聲音的高下?當感受力從教育裡抹去,很多與生俱來的本能就這麼被遺忘了。藝術家所強調的「共感」,正是樹火一直以來在藝術教育的堅持——「美,在自然裡發生」,紙從自然而來,美也由此而生,在靜心中回歸內在本質對話,與自然環境共鳴,啟發生活經驗、敏銳感官,回到純粹美的創作,期待在孩子的心中種下生活美學的種子!

【天地茶屋】運用紙材裝置塑造一個共感空間,喚醒人的五官交錯接收,在茶屋中體驗一種專注、精神交會,回到原始本能,欣賞畫中荷的潔淨,感受流動的清香,讀詩的溫度,體會書寫時筆尖觸碰紙張的細微律動,品茶不只色香味,而是喝到日子的美好。 

 

The Mobile Tea Garden : Join Feelings / Ines Sun  &  Taiyo Okamoto  Joint Exhibition

Created by Taiwan-born, New York artist Ines Sun, The Mobile Tea Garden is a multimodal series of works forming a collective installation involving both the artists and the participants.  With the exhibition “Join Feelings”, Sun invites New York paper artist Taiyo Okamoto, to experiment and construct a paper teahouse using the special fiber paper from the Suho Paper Memorial Museum. 

The theme of “Join Feelings” comes from synesthesia, which nowadays the West defines as a neurological condition in which one sense, for example, hearing, is perceived simultaneously by one or more additional senses, such as sight; in short, one can hear the music in colors. Chinese poet/painter Wong Wei (699-761), long before the term was synesthesia created, already cross-stimulated reader’s senses in his poems and paintings. He was highly regarded by Su Dong Po (1037-1101), another prominent Chinese artist, as the poetic painter/painterly poet. Sun argues that human beings are born with the natural ability to feel in this cross-sensory way.

Joining together, Sun and Okamoto co-created the 120 strips which circle into the paper teahouse: Yun Yun 云云 (All beings). Sun painted the paper to convey the swinging of lotus, the sound of the night sky; Okamoto then deconstructed and subsequently reconstructed the paintings into a universe of imagination. Each individual hand-torn piece of paper is distinct in shape and color, and each strip tells its own story and feeling, but together they unify as a harmonious one. In contrast to our polarized culture, the process of making the teahouse reflects the unity of all beings.

The design of the teahouse and surrounding artworks induce the viewers’ five senses.

Inside the circle, the zero point of total integration, Sun leads 15 minutes of ceremonial movement in tea and calligraphy. During this one-on-one period spent together in silence, which changes from moment to moment, everyone is invited to join feelings, to be present in the center of their heart, to create a space of no-judgment: the Mobile Tea Garden, where one can experience and be nothing: 空 (emptiness).
