食物的醃漬,藉由長時間的浸泡,讓調味進入食物深層蔓延,内化出誘人的風味。藝術家王郁雯將定居於台東的日常浸漬於紙,因長期親近山海的滋潤,影響著她緊密連結自然環境與自我生活的創作議題。以紙張作為探索時間的媒介,看似將日常片段、空間景象壓縮在一張張平面,卻又在其中琢磨深化,拉出四度空間的紋理脈絡,形成豐富多層次的日漬產物。

 

一張張的紙張透過染色、上膠、打磨,在不斷重複的過程中,過去與當下相互並排、拼接、撞擊成新的記憶,每一張染色的紙張都代表著一層時間的痕跡,當各時間層間開始擠壓揉合,透過打磨的動作,逐漸顯現出微小的肌理,這些肌理是自然偶發的並非人為控制的產物,宛如水漬、鐵銹滋生而出的紋路,營造出懸浮於纖維的時間感。此次展覽中藝術家嘗試由樹火特別擇選的多款不同機器紙、手工紙疊合創作,透過纖維長短、疏鬆織密、色彩與質地的不同,融合多種手工技法嘗試,以極具實驗性的創作形式,摸索出一條複合紙張藝術的路線。

 

紙面中一層層的紋路,刻畫著時間的軌跡,有別於文字的敘述,日漬」體現了另一種緩慢的生活對話,將消逝去的時間以視覺化的方式轉換成另一種生命的刻度,藉由反覆咀嚼,傳達出對於所處時空環境的觀察與回應,描繪出生活中的真實紋路。

Food must be marinated for a long time before the seasoning can enter the food, adding to the finished dish its own enticing flavors. Artist Wang Yu-Wen marinates her paper creations with the seasonings of her daily life in Taitung. Her prolonged proximity to the mountains and ocean has influenced one of her creative themes: the close connections between nature and personal life. With paper as her medium, Wang explores time; seemingly mundane moments and scenes are compressed into flat surfaces, yet their intricacies carve out 4-dimensional lines, forming rich and multi-layered creations-"marinade days.”

 

As each sheet of paper is dyed, sized, and polished, over and over again, the past and present are placed side-by-side, joined, and jolted into new memories. Each dyed sheet of paper represents a vestige of time. These various vestiges begin squeezing and blending together through the act of polishing, and subtle patterns begin to form. These patterns occur naturally, with no human manipulation, like patterns made by water stains or rust, creating a sense of time suspended on fibers. For this exhibition, the artist experimented with combining different machine-made and hand-made papers especially selected by Suho. Wang considered differences in fiber length and spacing, color, and texture, while employing many hand-craft techniques in an incredibly experimental way. In the process, she charted a new route in compound paper art.

 

The layers of texture on the papers show the traces of time. Unlike the written word, "marinade days” presents a different, slower kind of dialogue, turning the passing of time into a visual scale of life that, after repeated ponderings, conveys observations of, and responses to, the environment, and depicts the true patterns of life.
